R400 Rubber Application for Shingle Roofs

  1. Lightly pressure clean the surface with water and/or detergent to remove any film, oils or foreign material. Take special care to remove any plastic roof cement or “bull”, as it is an unstable surface to bond to.
  2. Nail down or snap off any curled up shingles.
  3. Apply Pro Bond 200 to the entire substrate by brush, roller or spray.
  4. Apply a slurry coat to the surface. The slurry mix consists of 94lbs Trinity White Cement, 2 1/2 gallons of Cement Catalyst and enough water to make a heavy paint-like consistency. Apply the mix with a soft pushbroom. Take special care to fill in all cracks, holes and voids with the slurry. The finished surface should be smooth and free from defects that would prevent the R400 Rubber from forming a continuous film.
  5. Apply Pro Bond 200 to the entire slurried substrate.
  6. Apply R400 Rubber Fiber on all valleys, plumber stacks and around any protrusions through the roof surface, with brush or trowel.
  7. Apply R400 Rubber to the prepared surface by brush, roller or spray. If spraying, must use a 3/8″ hose and back roll. Apply 2 complete coats, allowing the first to dry completely. Drying time is 1-4 hours depending on the temperature and humidity. Care must be taken to avoid any skips, holidays, voids and holes.
  8. No top coat is needed with R400. Due to the non chalking surface there will be some dirt pickup.

Installation Notes

  • Do not thin or dilute the R400 Rubber for any reason
  • The R400 Rubber product must be allowed to form a continuous, unbroken film.
  • For every 250 square feet of roof, one 5 gallon bucket of R400 must be used in order to obtain the 22 mil thickness required.
